origin: Nebo is derived from a feature name used by William Landsborough (1825-1886) explorer and pastoralist, and a run name also used by him. Nebo is the Hebrew version of the name of the Babylonian- Assyrian god Nabu, the god of vegetation (Isaiah 46:1).
history: Originally called Fort Cooper, changed to Nebo by the Governor in Council 2 November 1923 but Nebo was probably in common use from the mid-1880s.
