origin: Derived from town name which was the name suggested by John Campbell Miles (1883-1965) prospector, who pegged the first mineral lease on the silver/lead deposit at Mount Isa in February 1923. Probably Miles used a corruption of Mount Ida, the Western Australian scene of many of the reminiscences of his friend Moses Rowlands ( - ). Note Mount Isa was not named after Miles' niece, whose name was Isobel. Refer G. Blainey. Mines in the Spinifex. Sydney, 1970, p. 72.
history: Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources 23 February 2001.
