history: Wyandra was previously known as Claverton. On the old Claverton Downs pastoral run on the Warrego River, taken up in about 1860. The run appears on an 1872 map of Queensland. Claverton is a suburb of Bath in Somerset, England and there may be some connection with the naming of Claverton Downs. [Map of Queensland, Pugh's Book Almanac, 1872; ANPS files]. Name changed by notification dated 27 October 1896 published in Government Gazette of 14 November 1896. See also Government Gazette 10 January 1942 page 23, Reserve for Township Purposes.
