origin: Derived from town name which was derived from the original 1840s pastoral run name, which is probably a mistaken version of "Chirbury", the town in Shropshire, England, where Richard Jones (1786-1852), merchant and pastoralist, lessee of the run in the 1850's, was born.
history: Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources 16 October 1998. Former localities in Murgon and Wondai Shires were amalgamated and regazetted by Minister for Natural Resources and Water on 29 August 2008 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
