origin: Formerly a railway station and town name, first known as Gulatten, then Hampden, then Friezland, then Kuridala in October 1916. Kuridala is reportedly an Aboriginal word, language and dialect not recorded, indicating eagle hawk. Railways altered Friezland to Kuridala 6 October 1916.
