comments: Name derived from railway station name, first used in 1936 by Railways Department, as a change of name from College Siding. Lawes was suggested by John K. Murray ( - ) Principal of the State Agricultural College, after Sir John Bennett Lawes, First Baronet Lawes (1814-1900), scientist and founder of Rothampstead Agricultural Experimental Station in Hertfordshire, developer of the use of artificial fertilizers and particularly superphosphate. District named and bounded by Governor in Council 3 June 1994. Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources 26 May 2000. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources and Water on the 29 August 2008 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. Previously a locallity in Gatton Shire and in Laidley Shire.
