origin: Currumbin is reportedly derived from Bundjalung language, Ngaraangbal dialect words, either indicating high, or high up, or place of high trees, or alternatively has a connection with "kurrohmin" indicating kangaroo. Refer J.G. Steele, Aboriginal pathways. Brisbane, 1983, p.62.
history: Originally a farming settlement name, then a railway station name. Named and bounded by Governor in Council on 1 December 1982. Boundaries amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Mines, 7 February 2003. Coordinates amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Mines 13 June 2003. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on the 27 November 2009 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
