origin: Derived from town name which was derived from Bay name, which is from either Yuggera language, Yugarabul dialect, word tinchin = mangrove, possibly obtained by Andrew Petrie (1798-1872) builder and architect, on his Mary River expedition in 1842, or from Kabi language, Dulinbara dialect, Doombarah Clan, word tinken = vine with large ribbed leaves. history: Formerly a locality in Cooloola Shire, named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources 1 December 2000 and Tairo Shire, named and bounded by Minister for Natural Resources 13 March 1998 with the coordinates being amended by the Minister for Natural Resources 12 January 2001. These localities were amalgamated and regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on the 5 March 2010 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
