comments: Name derived from town, which, in 1903, when the Railways Department opened a new railway station on the Gladstone to Rockhampton line, and gave it the name of a lagoon on the Archer brothers' property Gracemere. The name was a development of earlier spellings Padgole and Badul, representing the pronunciation of the Aboriginal word (meaning and language unknown).
