origin: Derived from town name. The Kolan railway station and Receiving Post Office opened on 20 August 1889. The name was changed to Bullyard on 15 March 1897. It was also known as 19 Mile Gate. Bullyard comes from a stockyard in the locality [Post Office Historical Society of Queensland (approx. 1970s). This information comes from the Bullyard Archival and Office File, G. P. O.
