origin: Name derived from town which was named ca. 1864, by Surveyor-General (Queensland), probably derived from Mitchell Downs pastoral run, which was named in 1861 after Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (1792-1855) NSW Surveyor-General 1828-55.
history: Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Mines, 28 March 2002. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources and Water on the 16 January 2009 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. The name of the Local Government Area in which this locality is situated changed from Roma to Maranoa as recorded in Local Government (Areas) Amendment Regulation (No. 1) 2009, Subordinate Legislation 2009 No. 117 and notified in the QGG 26th June 2009. The locality was amended accordingly by gazette on 6th May 2011, page 16.
