comments: Name and boundaries approved by Queensland Place Names Board 11 August 1975. Boundaries amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Minister Assisting the Premier on Water, 1 September 2006. Probably derived from real estate names Windsor Castle Estate and Windsor Park Estate, marketed around the time of Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1887, and taken from the name of Windsor Castle in Berkshire. Windsor derived from Old English "landing place with a windlass". Windsor was declared a shire in 1887, Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee year. In 1898 the railway passed through the area and in 1904 Windsor became a municipality. The new town of Windsor embraced Albion, Wooloowin, Wilston, Lutwyche, Newmarket, a portion of Eagle Junction, and a portion of Kedron. In 1925 the Windsor Shire Council amalgamated with the Greater Brisbane Council. Boundaries amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Water 30 January 2009 (CHQ022459/389). The boundary separating Windsor and Lutwyche was amended by Place Name Decision (Amendment) Notice (No 03) 2013 published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 7 June 2013 vide CHQ022459/769.
