origin: Derived from town name which was named after Marburg, in Germany, probably by one or a group of German settlers in the area in 1860s. Formerly called Sally Owens Plains. Marburg was officially changed to Townshend in June 1917, during anti-German feeling in World War I, but reverted to Marburg in 1920. Refer J. D. Kerr. Triumph of Narrow Gauge. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources and Water on the 30 January 2009 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. The boundary separating Marburg and Minden was amended by Place Name Decision (Amendment) Notice (No 04) 2013 published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 28 June 2013 vide CHQ022459/399. This resulted from the amendment of the Local Government boundary between the City of Ipswich and the Regional Council of Somerset vide Subordinate Legislation 2012 No. The boundary separating Marburg and Minden was amended by Place Name Decision (Amendment) Notice (No 06) 2013 published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 26 July 2013 vide CHQ022459/755.
