origin: Named after the point of that name which would appear to be named in honour of Sir Richard Arkwright, the inventor of the modern cotton spinning factory system and machinery. Just who bestowed this name is not known as it was obviously intended to be grouped with Point Cartwright, which was named after Edmund Cartwright who developed weaving and combing equipment which compliment Arkwright's inventions. The name would appear to post-date 1861, as Point Cartwright had been named Point Raper by Lt. Heath RN in that year.
history: District named and bounded by Governor in Council 27 July 1991 and revised by Governor in Council 12 August 1994. Regazetted by the Minister for Natural Resources and Water 4 July 2008. Regazetted as a suburb by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on the 19 November 2010 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. Re-gazetted on the 10 January 2014 due to council de-amalgamations under the Local Government (De-amalgamation Implementation) Regulation 2013.
