origin: Derived from Brisbane River, which was named by John Oxley (1785?-1828) Surveyor-General and explorer, in December 1823, in honour of Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane (1773-1860), Governor-General of New South Wales 1821-25, whose surname could be derived either from "Braesbane", indicating white hills, or "Braesburn" indicating small rivulet from the hillside.
history: Brisbane City comprises part of the former suburb of City and was named by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on 18 June 2010. Boundary between Brisbane City (QPN1125) and Milton (QPN909) amended vide CHQ022459/928 on 30 May 2014.
