origin: Originally named Spring Hollow, the name Spring Hill was probably adopted when prominent citizens began to build residences along the ridge. Springs in the area supplemented Brisbane's early water supply when the Tank Stream and dam could not meet demand in the 1840s.
history: Name and boundaries approved by Queensland Place Names Board 11 August 1975 (QGG 16 August 1975, p.1761). Boundaries between Spring Hill and Fortitude Valley and Spring Hill and City (Brisbane City) altered by the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on 21 May 2010. Boundary amendment between Fortitude Valley and Spring Hill via action #16047 effective 07/01/2017.
