origin: Derived from town name which was derived from railway station name, used by Railways Department from 14 February 1887, as the meeting point with the NSW rail system. Wallangarra is reportedly an Aboriginal word, language and dialect of origin not recorded supposed to indicate long waterhole.
history: Named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources, 15 December 2000. Regazetted by the Minister for Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade on the 21 August 2009 due to the council amalgamations under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007. Boundary amendment between Wallangarra and Wyberba effected on 12/09/2016 via action #16032.
