origin: Presumably named after William Carron (1821-1876) explorer and botanist, second in charge of the Cape York Expedition 1848 led by Edmund Besley Court Kennedy (1818-1848) explorer and one of only three survivors.
history: Also referred to as Creen or Carron Creek on early historical mapping (refer to 1878 Atlas of Queensland published by Watson, Ferguson & Co, 1883 Queensland Run Maps Burke District and 16 mile Queensland 1923 map series Sheet 5). The name Creen is possibly derived from a Mr James Creen who was an inspector of telegraphs in the Nebo area in 1866 and who was appointed to the Creen Creek telegraph station in 1872.
